DAY 1: DISCOVERING THE VILLAGE AND NATURE

The adventure begins as soon as you arrive in Urda, a charming village at the foot of the Montes de Toledo. Start by walking through its cobbled streets, small squares, town hall, and municipal park, where you can see an ancient water wheel. Visit the famous Basilica of the Holy Christ of Vera Cruz and its ex-voto museum, the Guerrero Malagón painting museum, the Parish Church of San Juan Bautista, and the Hermitage of the Conception, allowing you to learn about the local history. Enjoy a coffee and the typical local pastry, “revueltos,” at the main square while watching the daily life of the village.

In the afternoon, enjoy the nature surrounding Urda. Explore the golden fields and nearby nature trails as you take a peaceful walk or bike ride. DAY 2: EXPLORING WINDMILL CULTURE

In the morning, a must-visit is the Molino del Tío Rufo, where, with some luck, you may be able to attend a theatrical visit to learn about the history of Castilla-La Mancha. Later, treat your taste buds by enjoying a meal at one of Urda’s traditional restaurants. Here are some typical dishes you should try:

• Migas Manchegas: A delicious combination of breadcrumbs, olive oil, garlic, and paprika. It is slowly cooked until it is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
• Pisto Manchego: A typical dish from the area, made with a stew of vegetables such as tomato, bell pepper, onion, and zucchini. It is cooked with olive oil and seasoned with salt and pepper.
• Carcamusas: A slow-cooked pork dish with peas and a slightly spicy tomato sauce. According to tradition, the name might refer to the regular customers of a local tavern in Toledo, where the dish was loved by both middle-aged men (“carcas”) and younger women, whom they saw as their “muses.”
• Gachas Manchegas: Similar to migas, but made from chickpea or wheat flour, cooked with water, olive oil, and salt, usually served with chorizo, bacon, or ham.
